Top 10 Goal Zero Yeti 3000X Portable Power Station Reviews
1. Amazing Goal Zero Yeti 3000X. Power anything. In silence.
Incredible. So thrilled with my experience so far! This was my first generator from Goal Zero. I’ve been a fan from a distance because of everything they stand for and their incredible quality. I’ve been studying reviews and dying to get my hands on one of their generators/power sources for multiple reasons: wanted something rechargeable, silent, transportable anywhere, robust and durable, environmentally-conscious, something dependable for emergency power needs, and even be able to power my churro food truck!
The box was huge so I thought it would be as big or even bigger than my current generator (pictured to give you a good sense of the comparison). I was shocked to see how small it was. It wasn’t light weight. 🙂 But it came already to go and secured to the dolly. I jumped right in and didn’t even read any instructions. Rolled it out to my food truck. I figured that was going to be the true test. Could it power churro production for the masses. Plugged the truck in, hit one button and BOOM.
Power to the churros! And in SILENCE! Our other gas-powered generators are so loud so this is going to be simply amazing! And it will allow us to provide a better customer experience for OUR customers. I’m considering buying several of them for our other portable churro sales set-ups. And it came already charged 67% so had we plenty of power for hours. Ready to go out of the box. Such a huge fan of this customer experience!
Excited to purchase the solar panels to be able to recharge anywhere and for emergency power in case of an outage.
2. I have used Goal Zero Yeti 3000X on every project since I purchased it.
I do a lot of wood working and the Goal Zero Yeti 3000X can handle all my tools. I have used it on table saws, sanders, and miter saws with zero issues. It’s super portable and easy to transport. As a videographer, I rely heavily on lighting and keeping things charged. The Yeti never leaves my side and is involved on every single shoot. Clients seem to love how it looks also. It is also powerful enough to run my 90 gallon coral reef fish tank when the power goes out! Life saver.
The USB-C ports are a huge help. My MacBook uses this to charge and not having to lug around a massive block is super helpful. The display is also incredible. Being able to see how much power you are pulling and how much time until empty is really helpful. The compartment on the top, I really thought I wouldn’t use but, I store a lot of extra cables and even the charger in there. I absolutely love the roller cart!
The app is also a really good addition. It lets you control the yeti from a distance and monitor the status of the power station. Everything was as advertised. The first charge took around 12 hours using 120v wall plug.
My plan is to get some solar panels to upgrade the charging capabilities. Goal Zero states with 600W of solar panels the Yeti will charge in 6 hours! Down the line we plan on doing a van conversion and the Goal Zero Yeti 3000X will be our life support!
3. Powerful (3000W) Portable Power Station
On September 9, 2020 a serious wind storm caused more than 180,000 customers to lose power across the State of Utah. I was one of those customers. I was lucky, our home only lost power for 24 hours, we had neighbors that were out of power for over a week. In our location while this event is not common it has happened 3 times in the last 20 years. I wanted a clean alternative power solution that would also have more uses than just providing emergency back up power. The YETI 3000X was my answer. The primary specs are 3032 Watt Hour Battery, 2000 Watt AC Inverter, 3500 Watt Surge all in a 69.8 lb package that has a footprint of about 1/2 my Yeti Tundra 50 Cooler (FYI the Yeti Cooler is not a Goal Zero product,). See the picture above. You can get all the in depth specs for this Power Station on the Goal Zero website so I am not going to repeat them in this review.
As I mentioned above I wanted more that just a clean emergency backup power solution. It needed to provide additional useful functionality. I had four requirements.
1. Reasonably portable solar power. At 70 pounds this is not too difficult to move and the included roll cart makes this even more so. It can be charged from the house power but with the right sized solar panels I can charge it up during the day. As an added plus I can charge it from my car.
2. Power my shop tools so I am not restricted to just working in my garage. The 3000X is an awesome solution. I have included a picture of my Festool TS 55 EQ Circular Plunge Saw and CT MIDI shop vac. I can hook up the Shop Vac to one of the 120V AC Receptacles and then plug my Circular Saw into the shop vac. Turning on the saw starts the shop vac. I ripped a 3 and 1/2 foot long 4/4 Hard Maple board with this configuration without any problem. I then plugged in my Porter Cable 1/2 router and cut a 3/4 inch dado one half inch deep in the same stock. Together both of these actions used 0.01 percent of the fully charged power station. The Festool Shop Vac and Circular saw both take 1200 Watts for a combined total of 2400 Watts. Easily handled by the YETI 3000X. Based on the LED readout a useful life of 2.5 hours was indicated for this kind of work.
3. Have a quiet portable power solution for camping. I don’t know about you but I hate being in a campsite where everyone is running their gas generators. Even a 80 decibel generator becomes annoying after awhile and most campsites restrict their use. This YETI 3000X is silent so it can be used 24/7. You would not want to back pack with this, but it easily fits into the back of my 4Runner leaving plenty of room for the other necessary gear. It could power a portable fridge or pellet grill such as a Traeger.
4. Provide backup power to my house. While the Goal Zero Yeti 3000X will not run everything in my house at once it will run virtually any appliance with the exception of my electric range. i intend to get a Goal Zero YETI Home Integration Kit which will let me connect up to four circuits from my home breaker panel. That will have to be subject of another review. So the next time we get a windstorm in our area I will not be without power. The packaging was great. The set up guide clear and easy to follow. I could not be more pleased.
4. BIGGEST, GREATEST GENERATOR EVER! – Goal Zero Yeti 3000X
I recently purchased Goal Zero Yeti 3000X due to its performance as described in the manual. I am using this power station for my converted van, and it gave me some freedom of not wiring all these electric wires all over the van. All of the necessary outlets you need are right on the Power Station. I do have solar panels, and it charges my Power Station in a day without turning the engine on and has plenty of power to do just about anything you want to do in a van like you are at home. I can also keep it at home for emergency power in case of a blackout, and that gives me lots of confidence and relief. YETI did what it promised to do so far, and I am happy with it. I strongly recommend getting any YETI Power Station, and you will be a satisfied traveler.
5. Good, Powerful Generator, But Don’t Use The Telescoping Handle
It works as advertised: Quiet with plenty of power and clear displays telling you everything you could possibly want to know about power input and output.
The battery pack is heavy — about 70 pounds, so you’d think the folks at Yeti would understand you can’t expect a thin, aluminum telescoping handle designed to move a small carry-on bag around an airport terminal to work with this load. Alas, no, they didn’t understand or test, apparently. After a few seconds of testing, I realized that if I tried to lever this battery onto its cart wheels with that handle, it would break. So, you have to stoop down and grab the battery handles to tip it up on its wheels to move it.
6. Best Product on the market! – Goal Zero Yeti 3000X
After experiencing an earthquake, windstorm and pandemic in 2020, I spent a lot of time researching the products available to keep my home and technology powered in emergency situations. Goal Zero products are by far the best solution for both emergency and outdoor solutions. This is a clean energy solution. Without the need for gas, and charged via solar (and also electric), this portable generator will work for any situation. It is lightweight considering it’s power size and will be a handy unit for multiple situations. It is easy to use. I am not mechanically minded and this works like a charm. Just Plug and play! Highly recommend. GOAL ZERO has a lot of good options. Also a shout out for a 30 hour turnaround on delivery. It was delivered the NEXT day after ordering.
7. Silent Beast
The Goal Zero Yeti 3000X is a beast! I purchased it with camping/tail gating/over landing in mind, but I am now discovering it can do so much more. Not only is it a great backup for the inevitable few power outages I get a year, but it was clutch when I needed to do some repair work on my fence. It provides more than enough power than I’ll ever need, and it is really easy to recharge. Setup was a breeze with the Goal Zero app, and now I know exactly how much juice I have left, as well as complete control of power in and out. It is heavy, but the retractable handle and large wheels make moving it around a breeze. It also feels like it was built well and that it will last a long time. I am very pleased with my purchase!
8. Great product – Goal Zero Yeti 3000X
I have found that the people of this company are very helpful and they stand behind their product and make things right. The Goal Zero Yeti 3000X will run all my tools and household appliances as I need them. The only thing that I don’t like is that the generator can not get wet so I dare not leave it outside to charge when I am not home.
9. It served me well in a power outage
I bought Goal Zero Yeti 3000X because I use a CPAP machine at night and I need to have a continuous power supply when sleeping. Shortly after I bought this, our power company forewarned us that they would have to turn off the power for about 6 – 8 hours during a weekday. That provided me a great opportunity to try out my new power supply. I used it to power the refrigerator and microwave and it worked perfectly. I can now sleep more securely knowing that I have a reliable secondary power supply.
10. Easy to use other companies solar panels and great product.
I was able to buy cheaper solar panels to charge my Yeti from Renogy and HQST. There are solar cable adapters you can buy to run from MC4 connectors on the panel end to the Goal Zero cable with the Anderson ends which connect to the Yeti. However, the polarity is opposite and you must plug the red Anderson into the black receiver on the Yeti and the black Anderson to the red receiver on the Yeti (i.e. switch the polarity.) Cable adapters are easy to find if you google them. My Yeti will keep my full sized freezer in the garage running for 4 days without a recharge. During sunny days I can use 4 x 100 watt solar panels (a Renogy 200 watt solar panel suitcase and 2 100 watt HQST solar panels) to completely recharge the Yeti within 4 hours with the power it took to keep the freezer running for the previous 24 hours.
I have another smaller Yeti which I use as an uninterruptible power supply to keep our internet satellite, Directv, pellet stove, some lights and laptops running in a power outage. No running outside to start a generator, refill the generator’s gas tank, and running to town to buy more gas for the generator. A real life saver when the power and phone lines are down. You get twice the power from a lithium battery with half the weight. You can’t beat this product with a stick.
