Top 10 Goal Zero Yeti 500X Portable Power Station Reviews
1. Great portable power supply – Goal Zero Yeti 500X
This is just what I needed! I use a cpap on longer camping trips and have GZ solar panels and some GZ batteries that are lead acid. This is much lighter and it has more AH avail than my other batteries. If you use these for a similar purpose I suggest using a Dc converter because it is much more efficient and the charge will last longer during cpap use.
2. Very cool power backup for electronics and small appliances
Just got, and very impressed – size of a lunchbox, perfect for those short power outages to keep all electronics up and running, and even a lcd desk lamp using the standard AC plugs (it said about 40 hours for that). Nice to see how many hours left for whatever is plugged into it, as well as wattage draw.
Got the boulder 100W solar panels too-after a quick test, raised power from around 90% to 100% in about 45 minutes at between 30-45 watts on a sunny day (I did not position it for optimal effect, just plopped it on the porch, with a couple shadows from plants on it.
It powered the house phone too (Panasonic). Plugged it in and got a dial tone, This would be helpful during blackouts. I would consider the Goal Zero Yeti 500X an excellent solution to keep elecronics/small lighting etc. going in a blackout/no power situation.
3. How does all that power fit in there?!
I really have to hand it to Goal Zero. I didn’t think their products could get any better than they already are, but then they released the Goal Zero Yeti 500X. I’ve been using it quite a bit since I received it a few weeks ago. It has kept my portable fridge powered for around 2 days easily before needing a recharge. (Tested that multiple times with different weather and it still gets around the same 2 – 2.5 days on one charge. Very impressive)
The packaging is very well thought out. I love how everything is very secure in the package and also labeled nicely. The instructions are also clear and precise so there’s no confusion on getting to know the 500X.
First time I took it out of the box I really was impressed with how much power they packed in this tiny power plant. I really love the design of it and how each port on it is nicely placed so things don’t overlap. I also appreciate the digital display. Some units don’t have this much information on it and it really helps a lot that they have a back light optional for the screen to help save energy as well.
Using the Goal Zero Yeti 500X was a breeze. It easily charges all my devices and even my fridge and hasn’t given me any issues. There’s really nothing I can complain about using it. It’s the best portable battery I’ve used so far and I doubt I’ll find a better one any time soon. Great job Goal Zero! I bet I’ll get a ton of use out of this mini power plant.
4. Company stands by product
I had to replace mine after a short amount of use. Best method to contact customer support is email. They provided return ship boxes and paid for hazardous shipping material costs. It was a bit of a pain to get FedEx to handle the shipping correctly, but got the replacement unit back from GZ within a couple days of their receipt of the return. The replacement has worked perfectly so far.
As far as using a cooler/refridge – mine works really well. One of the Massimo e-Koolers (50L) you can buy at a lot of different places. It’s a true 12v design. Gets super cold, super quick and doesn’t drain too much juice after getting to temperature.
If I was starting over, I’d maybe go up a GZ unit to get a bigger inverter and more storage. Or I might add another one of these to get that plus redundancy/backup covered.Either way, these things are really great. Easy 5 stars despite a rough start.
5. The Best Goal Zero Yet – Goal Zero Yeti 500X
Owning a portable battery has become a must in current years — and I’ve owned maybe 5 in the last 3 years. As more public land is opening and as I go stir crazy working at home, I’ve landed on this new Goal Zero 500X to be my favorite battery yet to power my mobile office.
Before the Goal Zero Yeti 500X, I was carrying two portable batteries with me. Kind of annoying, but my two top batteries prior to the 500X were getting annoying to carry because one had the 12v car style and the other had USBC, but with the 500X I get the best of both of those worlds.
The specs on this thing really are great, I’ll let you read through all of the Amazon listing for those, but putting this puppy through the daily paces has me left stunned! I use it regularly to power my 15” MacBook Pro (I don’t need the charging brick, I just plug it straight into the High Power USBC Port). It’s a beast and can charge my Canon EOS-R and Mavic Pro batteries good, keeping me running.
The only drawback I have with the Goal Zero Yeti 500X is that there isn’t an app to check how the power is doing – I have really gotten accustomed to my Dometic CFX3 app, and would love to see a battery do the same. I really wish that this battery had one.
6. State of the Art & Top of the Line
I lived through the recent Texas Power blackout. It was 7 degrees, no heat or power, for almost 5 days. I’ll never get caught like that again. Goal Zero Yeti 500X will keep my wifi/internet going, recharge my LED lanterns, laptops and phones, and I can recharge it from my hybrid car in 3.5 hours. It’s quiet, clean, and dependable. It’s the perfect size and lightweight and portable.
7. The best portable power unit I own – Goal Zero Yeti 500X
I’ve had several different portable power units of different sizes and features. I used to be a Souki fan. But, their customer service and ability to keep up with new technology has really really lagged. So, I tried the Goal Zero. I will never go back. The quality, features, and value are excellent. I had to call customer support for a quick question and the answer was back in moments (GREAT support). I highly recommend Goal Zero Yeti 500X.
8. I wish I bought Goal Zero Yeti 500X sooner
The Goal Zero Yeti 500X is awesome! I’m already taking it on a couple of camping trips and it works perfectly for everyone. I only wish that I bought this sooner! It’s super easy to use right out of the box. It’s holds its charge for so long and it was great being able to charge multiple devices at the same time! I’m definitely going to get the solar panel to charge it on the road and I’m excited to try and have it power my electric pizza oven!
9. Awesome battery-perfect for camping and working remotely!
The Goal Zero Yeti 500X is a super great product! It packs a lot of power for the size and weight. My husband used it to recharge his MacBook and iPad to work while we were driving on the freeway on a recent trip. It fits easily in our sedan and in the back seat of our truck.
The Yeti 500 is light and nowhere near the weight of the Yeti 400!! We’ve powered our small cotton candy maker, portable tooth brush when we go camping and a lot of things. Our kids bike tires were flat and we hooked up a high powered portable air compressor to the 500x and it worked well. My husband has a DECKED drawer system in his truck for work and it fits perfectly in the drawer. This is PERFECT for any road trip as a back up. If I could rate this higher, I would!!
10. Great multi use portable power
I’ve used Goal Zero Yeti 500X power station around the house plus took it camping on our latest kayak trip. It hasn’t disappointed. While camping we used it to recharge phones and run two stings of camp lights over two days with plenty of power to spare. While isolating at home it allowed me to work in the back yard, keeping my laptop powered all day. The folding handle makes for easy carrying and the size allows for ease of transport. Definitely a worthwhile purchase.
